President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi on Monday appointed Nayef Al-Bakri as the governor of Yemen's southern port city of Aden.
The decision comes as the pro-government forces are still combing areas in Aden after retaking the city from the Houthi militants following a months-long conflict.
Hadi has made many decisions from the Saudi capital Riyadh where he has been staying for months. He and the government were ousted by the Houthis early this year.
Separately, the Saudi-led Arab coalition carried out fresh airstrikes against Houthi camps and weapon depots in a number of cities including the capital Sanaa.
In Sanaa, explosions of weapons continued for hours early today after the Al-Hafa brigade was hit by three airstrikes.
The raids coincided with persistent confrontations between the pro-government forces and the Houthi militants.
In Marib, fierce battles erupted during which more than a dozen Houthis were killed and others injured, locals said.
In Taiz, the pro-government forces advanced on the Houthis retaking positions and limiting the presence of the militants.
In Lahj, the battles are continuing as the pro-government are seeking to retake the Al-Anad military base and key brigades.
