President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi named Abdu Hussein Al-Huthaifi as the new interior minister on Tuesday at a time when the interior minister who was appointed by the Houthi group is still in the post.
A few days ago, Hadi appointed the former Secretary General of the Yemeni Socialist Party Yasin Noman as an ambassador to the UK.
The two officials were sworn in before Hadi in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
Hadi and the government, who were ousted by the Houthis with support from the forces loyal to the former president in September, have been acting from Riyadh since the Saudi-led Arab military operation against the Houthi militants was launched on March 26.
Recently, Hadi issued several decrees appointing military chiefs. The decrees appeared to be a prelude for the return of Hadi and the government into Yemen.
Separately, Saudi-led airstrikes targeted Houthi positions and camps in the Houthi stronghold of Saada, Taiz and Hajjah.
Local sources in Taiz said the airstrikes targeted the Jabal Al-Arous military camp which was regained by the Houthis days ago.
The airstrikes coincided with continued confrontations between the popular resistance and the Houthis in several cities.
The popular resistance has cleared driven all Houthis out of the southern city of Dhale, local sources said, adding that the resistance fighters are heading to back their fellows in the nearby city of Lahj. In the past few days, the resistance took control of all parts of and military brigades in Dhale.
In Marib, the popular resistance took over the Marthad Mountain on the border with Sanaa after fierce battles with the Houthis.
