At least 8 civilians were killed and tens of others injured after Houthi militants and dissident forces shelled populated areas hysterically in Yemen's southern city of Taiz, local sources saidon Sunday.
The casualties included elders and children, they said, while elaborating that militants fired tanks randomly at residences and deployed snipers on rooftops of residences and schools in several areas.
The militants also pounded hospitals, they said.
Popular resistance fighters have taken control of most parts of the city in the past few days.
They took over the provincial government headquarters and security department and tightened measures at all entrances to Taiz.
Hundreds of militants and forces backing them have been killed and arrested since the violence broke out in Taiz.
Today, the popular resistance vowed to face the militants and forces loyal to ex-president especially their military brigades.
Moreover, the resistance has appealed for the Arab coalition to provide its fighters with weapons.
The Saudi-led coalition has been bombing weapon stores, military brigades and positions of the Houthi militants and pro-Saleh forces in several cities for more than a month.
The developments coincided with fierce battles between popular resistance fighters and Houthi militants in Marib province.
More than 100 Houthis have been killed and scores others injured in the battles in Serwah on the border between Marib and the capital Sanaa in the past 24 hours.
Marib resistance fighters have also arrested a number of Houthi militants.
