Yemen has arrested two Frenchmen in connection with links with AQAP, said Mohammed Al-Ahmadi, Chief of the National Security Apparatus.
The two foreigners were arrested, he said, not specifying when, while adding that there are 1.000 foreigners among AQAP members who are active in Yemen. They are from 11 Arab and non-Arab countries, he said.
AQAP claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on the French Newspaper Charlie Hebdo earlier this month. But Al-Ahmadi did not reveal whether the arrestees had links with the Paris attackers or not.
Separately, Yemen will start today the trial of an Iranian who has been accused of spying for Israel and inviting Yemenis to embrace the Baha'i faith.
The spy, in his 50s, was arrested lately in Sanaa holding a fake name. He is also facing charges related to holding fake documents and giving misleading statements to the authorities.
