Jane Marriott, British Ambassador to Yemen announced upon her return this Thursday to the Yemeni capital, Sana'a that the British embassy would "in the next couple of days'" re-open its doors to the public and resume its activities as normal.
“Hello Yemen. It’s great to be back... Looking to reopen the embassy in the next couple of days. Watch this space," the ambassador wrote on her official Twitter account.
While US officials chose only to repatriate its non-essentials staff , having kept a small team of the ground, the UK decided instead to completely withdrew its diplomats last week amid an unprecedented terror alert.
As the UK is said to be closely monitoring Yemen, British officials have confirmed that the British Special Forces will, with the French staged a massive naval show of force in the Arabian Peninsula, at striking distance of the coasts of Yemen and Somalia in a bid to stifle an Al-Qaeda comeback and intimidate terror militants back into hiding.
British military officials told the Sunday Mirror that "a fleet of four Royal Navy warships from the Response Force Task Group will be led by their flagship, the amphibious assault vessel HMS Bulwark.The ships will head for the region supported by five auxiliary vessels for four months of war games codenamed Cougar 13.
The task force will be guarded by Royal Navy helicopter carrier HMS Illustrious - and also the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, which will have 700 marines on board."
British Defence Secretary Stephen Hammond said: "The Task Group will demonstrate its formidable strength and its readiness to respond to emerging threats."
