With Yemen making stride toward political and economic recovery, American oil companies have expressed an interest in the country, saying they are looking for a partnership.
Yemen Minister of Oil and Minerals Ahmed Dares met on Wednesday in Houston (Texas U.S.A) with Shell Vice-President for business development, Andy Caltiz to discuss future collaboration.
Minister Dares is currently attending with an official delegation the 17th International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG17).
The LNG series of events are considered to be the premier global LNG events. A record number of over 5,000 industry professionals from over 80 countries are expected to attend, and the record-setting exhibition of 200,000 square foot will be the largest of its kind, attracting thousands of trade visitors.
Officials from the ministry explained that by attending such global events, Yemen is asserting itself as a major player on the world market and opening itself to future investors.
Saba (state news agency) confirmed that Minister Dares also met on Wednesday with other American companies which expressed an interest in Yemen.
With reported vast untapped resources and a large national deficit to finance an alliance between American-based companies and the Yemeni government is it seems the next natural for Sana'a and Washington.
