Chief of the rescue police in Baidha province, Khalid Al-Dhile, escaped an assassination plot after unknown people placed a bomb inside his car and detonated it on Wednesday, the state-run September 26 website reported.
Son of the chief and two others were injured and a soldier was killed in the explosion which occurred at the main market of Baidha, the website said.
The explosion was very huge and burned the car of the chief completely, it added.
Tens of senior military and security officers have been killed and injured and others escaped death in key Yemeni cities including the capital Sanaa since last year.
The incidents come amid alarming security disorder and political unrest as the country is continuing the implementation of a West-backed power-transfer deal which was reached after the 2011 unrest.
Separately, clashes erupted at noon Wednesday between the police and gunmen in Yemen’s southern Taiz province who were believed to be wanted suspects including prison escapees, according to local officials and eyewitnesses.
The clashes erupted in the Rawdha area and some from both sides were killed and others injured, they said. The officials declined to confirm whether there were casualties from the police.
