UN Envoy to Yemen Jamal Bin Omar has said that non-military sanctions under chapter VII resolution of the UN Security Council will be imposed against any officials who attempt to hinder the political settlement.
In an interview with France 24, Benomar spelt out that sanctions including unmilitary sanctions such as freezing of assets and travel ban will be taken, stressing that the global world will not allow to break down the political process.
Chapter VII of the UN charter allows for punitive measures against regimes considered a threat to world peace, including economic sanctions and military intervention.
The threats of the UN envoy after soldiers of the Republican Guard led by son of the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, Ahmed, rebelled against decisions issued by president Hadi last week.
Benomar urged all Yemeni sides to seriously deal with the transitional justice and reconciliation in accordance with international laws and conventions in order to transfer power peacefully and democratically.
He pointed out that the transitional justice law was referred to President Abdu Rabo Mansour Hadi and Prime Minster Mohammad Salem Basindwa due to disagreements about it.
He spoke about the inclusive national conference is designed to involve all political forces, civil society, youth movements and women in power.
He pointed out that most southerners want to participate in the dialogue, affirming that contacts are being conducted to persuade all sides and factions to participate.
The envoy emphasized that the dialogue will be held without ceiling or pre-conditions, hinting that the southern case will be the more important issue on the table.
