The Popular Resistance Committees, in collaboration with the Yemeni army, stormed a number of houses Monday in Jaar and arrested four al-Qaeda suspects, local sources affirmed.
The sources said that violent clashes broke out on Monday between the Popular Resistance Committees and Ansar Al-Shariah, pointing out that at least eight persons from both sides were wounded.
They further indicated that the stormed housed supported al-Qaeda militants and provided them with tips.
One of the four suspects was "disguised as a woman" when he was arrested, the sources said without giving further details.
A suicide bombing killed at least 45 people and wounded dozens more in a deadliest attack that targeted a rally of the local resistance committees that backed the Yemeni army in Jaar of Abyan governorate.
The Yemeni army carried out an offensive in June in which it could cleanse Jaar, Zinjibar and Shaqrah, three main al-Qaeda strongholds, from the militants.
However, al-Qaeda restored to use other tactics as it assassinated a number of Yemeni military commanders and officers and carried out suicide bombings against military and security institutions in the capital Sana'a and other cities.
Local sources of Abyan said that al-Qaeda seeks to regain some town, affirming that al-Qaeda operatives rallied in al-Mahafad area and some mountains of Abyan.
Local officials of Abyan said that their governorate lacks enough security forces, demanding the Interior Ministry to promptly send reinforcements to repel any attempts of al-Qaeda to return.
