Yemen's interior ministry reported on Monday the authorities have identified the kidnapper of an Italian diplomat and the place he was taken to the prior day.
The diplomat was kidnapped by armed people on Sunday near the Italian embassy in the capital Sanaa coinciding with an attack on the interior ministry's building.
Alessandro, 30 years old, was abducted while leaving the embassy on Police Academy street in downtown Sanaa and he was taken to Marib province.
The kidnapper, Ali Nasser Hudaikan from Al Abida clan in the Wady district, is demanding to remove his name from a state blacklist and compensation, the ministry reported.
The suspect is wanted on banditry and murder charges, it said.
"The Yemeni authorities are committed to the safety of the Italian diplomat and his release as soon as possible," it added.
Marib, about 170 km northeast of Sanaa, was a notorious place for kidnappings and attacks on oil and gas pipelines.
In response to spread of banditry and robbery as well as repeated attacks on public properties in this province, the new government has recently ordered to blacklist all suspects, file lawsuits against them and track them down.
Kidnapping of foreigners has almost disappeared in Yemen in recent years, but the incident highlighted the fragile security situation amid persistent political, security and economic unrest.
