Yemen will hold meetings with donors in the coming days within the technical preparations for the donor meeting scheduled to be held in the Saudi capital Riyadh on September 4, an official at the planning and international cooperation ministry said on Thursday.
Mazen Al-Yousfi, director of the cooperation with the Americas and Europe Department, said consultative meetings will be held between the Yemeni authorities and donor representatives to improve coordination for the donor meeting.
The meetings will also discuss key projects and needs which require external aid, he said.
"Major international efforts are underway by sponsors of the meeting including the UN, the WB, the GCC and the EU to make the conference a success through clear donor pledges to finance short-term and medium-term projects according to the transitional program for stabilization and development in the country," he added.
The donor meeting has been delayed twice triggering warnings of the deteriorating situation in one of the poorest countries in the world which is struggling to address big challenges and woes deepened by the unrest.
The EU announced on Thursday it was increasing its aid to Yemen by 20 million Euros, bringing the total aid this year to 40 million Euros.
The increase comes to help Yemen cope with the humanitarian crisis affecting half of the country's population including hundreds of thousands displaced by conflicts, according to Saba.
Earlier this year, the US voiced its readiness to rally external aid and contribute to establishing a special donor fund for Yemen.
Meanwhile, the US in cooperation with the UN has already started offering technical and financial assistance to the war-displaced people and the efforts to remove landmines in the southern Abyan province, he said.
Yemen is removing thousands of landmines after driving by Al-Qaeda militants out of their strongholds in the south in May.
The US aid through the USAID is focused on repairs to the basic services such as electricity, water and infrastructure as well as helping the IDPs to return to their homes, he said.
