A senior leader of the Southern Movement has revealed that proposals will be presented to the national dialogue conference that include change of the capital from Sana'a to Aden, Al-Muntasaf Newspaper has said.
According to Al-Muntasaf, guarantees were given to southern leaders that the shift of the capital will be among the schedule of the dialogue conference.
Media sources said that international and regional mediators adopted a set of incentives and guarantees with the aim of alluring all southern factions to take part in the national dialogue conference that is set to be held in the coming November.
Yemeni prominent intellectuals, writers and journalists have called for shifting the political capital to Aden, affirming that Aden enjoys all factors that make it a modern and civilized political capital.They asserted that Sana'a has no longer enjoy qualities of modern capital after local and international experts warned that Sana'a water basin will be run out by 2025 and it has been under siege from an on-going drought for many years."Sana’a is a mountainous city with a low water table," they added.Media sources said that the interim government had requested consultations from international firms specialized in scheming modern political capitals and cities, pointing out that it will launch huge development projects in Aden that include transfer of Aden International Airport to the neighboring province of Lahj."Among the strategic project the new government intends to carry out is a railway project that would link between several Yemeni provinces," they added.
