Militants Killed in 'Own Explosives' in Yemen

An Al-Qaeda militant and his two sons were killed after explosives they were making exploded inside their home in Yemen's Mukalla city early on Tuesday, the interior ministry reported.
"The militant and his two sons were preparing the explosives for terrorist attacks, but they went off before something bad could happen," the ministry quoted local security sources as saying.
Several Al-Qaeda militants have been killed in airstrikes in the past two days in southern cities amid an extensive hunt for key terrorist operatives.
With direct support from the US, the Yemeni army drove Al-Qaeda militants from their strongholds in the south and killed hundreds of them including senior leaders.
Separately, the authorities discovered a bomb planted at the tourist office adjacent to the political security office, the second such incident in the past few days in the port city of Aden, the ministry said.
The bomb was put inside a bag and was defused, it added.
More recently, the security authorities were put on high alert to face expected terrorist attacks after uncovering plans by Al-Qaeda to attack military and security targets through militants in military uniform.
After the severe blows during the US-backed offensive in the past few months, Al-Qaeda has recently stepped up suicide bombings attacking military and security targets in several Yemeni cities including the capital Sanaa.
Sanaa saw the deadliest ever bombings killing military and security chiefs as well as hundreds and injuring other hundreds of security members and cadets.
