Commander of the Air Force brigade 190, Yahya Al-Rowaishan, survived an assassination attempt in Yemen's Hadramout province on Sunday, the defense ministry said.
An explosive device was planted on the roadside in the Rawkab district and was detonated while the commander was leaving his home after noon, it said. "The commander, his son and his driver were injured and admitted to hospital," it said. They were not seriously injured, it said.
An investigation has been launched to identify the terrorists responsible for the attack, which comes within a series of explosions including suicide bombings targeting army and security leaders, personnel and offices in Yemeni cities.
Al-Qaeda has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks after the severe blows it has received in the past few months.
The Yemeni army drove Al-Qaeda militants out of their strongholds in Abyan and Shabwa provinces and a hunt is continuing for key operatives who had planned to regroup and build training camps in central provinces.
