The UN Security Council delayed on Thursday its meeting on Yemen till the end of May to give the Yemeni parties an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to a power-transfer deal reached in November after the unrest, Almasdar Online reported.
The website quoted a UN source as saying the meeting, designed expected to discuss the overall situation in Yemen especially progress on the political transition, will take place on May 29.
The Security Council will discuss the report of the UN envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar on progress in the political situation and the implementation of the transition deal, which was brokered by the GCC and backed by the UN, it said.
Until the meeting takes place, Benomar said he will re-evaluate the situation in Yemen, especially the commitment of the Yemeni parities to implementing the UN 2014 resolution backing the transition deal as well as challenges facing the country, the website said.
The UN and the EU have hinted at sanctioning officials and political groups threatening the political transition in Yemen, after a decision by the US president Barrack Obama to freeze the assets of the officials obstructing the deal.
The moves come as some military commanders are continuing their rebellion against decrees by new president, Hadi, firing them from key posts in the army.
The commanders included the nephew of ex-president, the commander of the third republican guard brigade. Tariq Saleh has earlier accepted to give up the post and hand over the brigade after a mediation led by Benomar, but later he retreated.
The sanctions by the West might target him and even ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
