The Saudi embassy in Yemen was shut down on Monday, with clients told the embassy will be closed until further notice, News Yemen reported, quoting a source at the embassy.
The source did not clarify the reason for the shutdown, though other sources were quoted as saying it came in protest against the continuous abduction of the Saudi consul, Abdallah al-Khalidi.
The consul, was abducted by gunmen near his house in the al-Mansoura district, Aden, on March 28, but the police did not know who was behind the attack and have been unable to find where he was taken.
The website quoted a tribal elder as saying that al-Khalidi is being held by armed groups in Shabwa province.
More than a month ago, the Omani embassy in Aden closed its door after receiving bomb threats by unidentified people.
Aden, Yemen's business capital, has recently been the scene for alarming insecurity and explosions, mostly by al-Qaida and sometimes by the southern secessionist movement.
