Yemen Interior Ministry has decided to broaden its coastguards patrols tasked with combating illegal fishing practiced by some foreign vessels in Yemen's territorial water.
"The Interior Ministry directed to seize illegal ships and take legal actions against them," the ministry cited in its online website.
The recent decisions taken by the ministry came after the Fishery Wealth Ministry complained in a letter sent to the Interior Ministry that foreign fishing vessels infiltrate to the Yemeni territorial water and fish illegally, particularly in the Red Sea.

The ministry has banned fishing companies and fishing boats operating in the Arabian Sea of fishing any species of fish or crustaceans, stressing that it would take legal sanctions against those found violating its directions.
Fishery wealth is considered Yemen’s most important natural resource oil and water. However, Yemeni economist say Yemen that has a coastline of 2230 km does not benefit substantially from the fishery wealth.
