In what seems to mark Sa’ada sixth war, Houthi followers have completely taken over Ghamr area in Sa’ada after they managed to seize all state facilities in the district including the security building, the telecommunications center and the central market.
Local sources revealed that a soldier was injured during the clashes with Houthis as they were trying to seize the district’s security building. Further, eight Houthi elements were killed while two were injured in the same confrontations.
Meanwhile, mediation efforts led by Sa’ada Sheikh Fares Mana’, also the governor’s brother, continue; however, there has been no progress in negotiations for a permanent ceasefire.
The sources also mentioned that Houthis have blown up Jahlah Fort neighboring the court and security building in Ghamar area following failed mediation efforts led by the Sheikh of Munbeh district Ali Dhafar as one of his companions was shot.
Taking defensive positions in Ghamr, official sources revealed last week that Houthi elements set a hotel into fire, killed a citizen and kidnapped a soldier. They also started to dig trenches and train their fellow on war techniques and store big quantities of food and fuel in what is thought to be preparations for an approaching war.
Houthi sources confirmed that they had taken over Ghamr district and noted that they are ready to defend themselves against any government offensive. In a statement released last week, Houthis noted that they are adhering to the ceasefire agreement between President Saleh and their field leader Abdul Malik Al-Houthi.
Pledging to abide by the ceasefire agreement, the local authorities, in a released statement, pointed out that efforts will continue to rebuild what was demolished during the past five wars inflamed by Houthi followers who, according to the same statement, shed the blood of innocent people and seized schools, mosques and farms and pillaged private and public property.
The statement continued that Houthis are fully responsible for the sabotage and outlawed acts which harm security and stability in the province, demanding them to be reasonable, to give up killing and be good citizens.
Moreover, local authorities in Sa’ada revealed a series of constant attacks waged by outlawed Houthi militants in some areas of Sa’ada and targeted civilians and farmers and sought to hamper reconstruction and development works together with undermining security and stability.
The authorities pointed out that these terrorist acts launched by Houthis over the last three months have left 30 people dead and over 100 injured in Al-Sowad, Al-Ausimat and other nearby areas.
