Yemeni security forces managed to arrest on Saturday a terrorist group planning to thwart the upcoming presidential polls in the southern port Yemeni city of Aden, which has recently witnessed some explosions and clashes in the electoral centers.
Police units has captured a five-member terrorist cell that was trying to plant explosives in some ballot centers in the city, a local security source told Yemen Post on condition of anonymity.
Large quantities of explosives were found with them when they were arrested, said the military source, who requested to remain anonymous because he is not authorized to release information to the press.
According to the source, the detainees confessed that they were trying to plant the explosives in some polling centers in Aden as a part of an effort to scare the citizen away from casting their ballots next Tuesday.
Apparently, there are some internal and external forces which don't want the situation to stabilize in the country by attempting to spoil every conciliatory deal, the source added.
So far, the Yemeni Defense Ministry has not revealed any information as to which Movement the terrorist group belongs to. However, some citizens in Aden pointed the finger of blame at the Southern Movement and al-Qaeda.
The arrest came only three days away from the historic presidential election, which is widely considered as the only viable resolution for the current stalemate.
Southern Movement and Shiite Houthis have called for boycotting the February 21st elections. However, US ambassador to Yemen Gerald .M Feierstein said that would not affect the electoral process nonetheless.
Last week, while unidentified bomber was trying to plant an explosive device in the Beautiful Art Institute, a main electoral center in the port city, the bomb went off tearing his limbs to small pieces. There was not any other causality in the incident as the center was empty.
