Yemeni authorities seized a weapon-loaded Iranian ship while it was en route to the Houthi fighters nearby the Hodeidah port, a Saudi newspaper, Alwatan, said on Tuesday.
The Arabic-speaking Alwatan affirmed that the ship was carried with mortar launchers, anti-armor shells and other weapons.
This revelation came simultaneously with a statement of a top U.S. Navy official in the Gulf as he said Iran has the capability to launch suicide attacks with small vessels, pointing out that the US forces are prepared to confront any Iranian aggression in the region.
Alwatan quoted a leader of Hajja tribes that fight the Houthis in the northern governorate of Hajja as saying that confrontations were ongoing.
Separately, the Yemeni Interior Ministry stated that the Houhi group had entirely destroyed a jail in Hajja province, pointing out that it used heavy artilleries.
It futher said the clashes between tribesmen and the Houthi fighters led to the killing of three tribal men and wounding of four others.
It said that the Houthi lost many fighters, indicating that there were no exact numbers about their casualties.
For its part, the media office of Al-Houthi group denied the allegations of the Interior Ministry, saying the ministry sides to the tribes.
The US Ambassador to Yemen Gerald Feierstein had voiced concern about Iran's efforts to raise security and political troubles in Yemen, pointing out that Iran interferes in Yemen's affairs through supporting Houthis.
Yemeni tribes accused the Houthi group of attacking their areas with the aim of expanding and controlling some district of Hajja and other governorates.
