The first shipment of the Saudi donation of three million barrels of crude oil arrived on Thursday in Yemen's business capital Aden, where it will be refined and then distributed to meet the public demand.
The shipment was 600000 barrels of crude oil that will be sent to the Aden Refinery, which has been closed for months.
Last week, Minister for Oil and Minerals, Amir Salim Al-Aidrous, said that Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz had ordered to give three million barrels of crude oil to support the Yemeni economy and face the acute fuel shortage during this turning point.
I hope the Saudi oil donation will help ease the fuel crisis here until the oil pipeline in Marib is repaired, he said.
Yemen is currently experiencing acute shortages of fuel and other key supplies as well as day-and-nigh power outages worsening the situation oringially affected by the month-long protests seeking the ouster of the regime.
In the last few days, the fuel shortage has deepened with long queues of cars seen on the streets, and the blackouts and other shortages forced shops to close down and many public and private public to be suspended.
