President Ali Abdullah Saleh said on Monday the Yemeni people is the only guarantor on implementing the reforms he proposed, as he said that the U.S. and European Union guarantees are rejected.
At a press conference in the capital Sana'a, President Saleh voiced readiness to provide guarantees to the opposition over his reforms.
Over the demands of the protesters mainly focused on the ouster of the regime, he said:" Come on, let us make a change through the ballot boxes, because we have no problem with change this way".
Highlighting the reforms he suggested when the protests erupted following the revolts that removed the Tunisian and Egyptian regimes in January and February, Saleh said I had put forward reforms upon the request of the opposition, but the opposition increased demands including those unacceptable and impossible such as the departure of the regime.
There are people chanting: the regime out, but millions of people in various cities tell them: yes to political, legal and constitutional reforms, and no to coups, attacks against the government, the public properties and lives, and no to chaos, he said.
"What is happening in Yemen is an infection coming from other regional countries and this is very similar to influenza," said Saleh.
Furthermore, Saleh affirmed that the security authorities never attack the demonstrators demanding his departure, urging the authorities to protect the people.
"The security forces heal the rift between anti and pro-Saleh people. They are very wise and act with sense of responsibility as the National Defense Council ordered not to use force against the people, but in the case of self-defense".
Saleh also renewed the call for resuming dialogue, saying: we call for and are interested in establishing a successful dialogue, but the opposition reject this idea.
We urge all parties and all concerned groups, organizations and people to work together to hold a successful dialogue, with the nation interest above other interests, he concluded.
