As many as 15 jihadists suspected of links with Al-Qaeda terror group have surrendered to Abbyan's governor, Ahmed Al-Maisari, late Monday, local media reported.
Following along meeting with tribal Sheikhs in Loudar and Moudia, the 15 jihadists finally decided to turn themselves in, it said, adding that the jihadist group was later handed over to the governor by the tribal Sheikh's who took charge of their surrender.
Apparently, Yemen, the impoverished nation, has lately become a focal point for Islamist insurgent including those from Al-Qaeda.
Meanwhile, experts in Al-Qaeda's affairs said that there was a great need for a considerable pressure on the Yemeni government to crackdown on terror groups.
The merger of Al-Qaeda's Yemeni and Saudi branches that the AQAP took shape in January 2009 came following the massive campaign launched by Saudi forces against Al-Qaeda, which led to several of its members seeking refuge in neighboring Yemen, they added.
