Deputy Abyan Governor Ahmed Ghalib Al-Rahawai survived on Saturday an assassination plot by unidentified armed people.
A source close to the deputy said an explosive device was planted in the Al-Rumailah district and it was set off when the car of the official passed in it.
He and one of his guards got minor injuries in the explosion and the car was also damaged.
Separately, armed people attacked on Saturday the police office in Shabwa Province but no casualties were reported.
The incidents came amid a series of attacks against public security and intelligence offices and assassination attempts against intelligence and security officers in southern and southeastern regions.
Many were killed and injured in the attacks and attempts mainly blamed on Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and the separatist movement.
Also, fierce clashes erupted between the security forces and suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists in the last two days in the Lowder district, Abyan.
According to the latest reports, 21 soldiers and 7 Al-Qaeda members were killed.
Reports also noted on Saturday civilians were killed.
