About 5 people including two soldiers were killed in an ambush that targeted a military patrol at Al-Azariq crossroads in Jahaf district, Dhale, early Sunday.
The patrol belonged to Armored Brigade 35.
Assistant Deputy Dhale Governor Abdullah Al-Haddi said outlaws staged the ambush for the patrol coming from Radfan, Lahj, firing RPGs at it.
Two soldiers were killed and another was injured while the driver, a General, survived being killed, he said. The vehicle completely burned with eyewitnesses saying it was burning for hours.
The other dead were of the outlaws, he said.
Al-Haddi made clear that outlaws had planned to ambush the military camp stationing in the Dar Al-Haid area when it withdraws.
The ambush occurred a day after suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists broke into the building of the Political Security in Yemen's business capital, Aden, killing seven soldiers, three women and a child.
The suspects shot bullets and detonated bombs at guards and civilians who were at the building.
The Supreme Security Committee condemned the attack which initial investigations said bore the hallmarks of Al-Qaeda.
