A man was killed and three others were injured when police broke up a rally in Yemen's southern province of Dhale on Thursday.
Local sources said that people gathered early today to mark the southern prisoner's day but anti-riot police fired live ammunition and tear gas to disperse the demonstration in the city worst hit by rioting amid bid separation by the secessionist movement responsible for organizing protests that usually turn violent.
Meanwhile, a security source in the province, living in tight security and what some say is militarizing the civil life for weeks, has accused the movement of rioting, banditry and road closures and inciting destructive acts in most of the south.
The government has in recent weeks taken further tough measures in the city under the pretext of searching for outlaws and separatists who attacked police, the people and properties.
The Ministry of Communication also ordered cell phone companies to cut their services in it and other districts in Lahj.
