A Yemeni pressman was murdered in the northern province of Hajjah by an armed gang on Saturday, a crime that came after Muhammad Al-Rabou'e, who reported for some local papers, had received threats of cleansing.
He was killed because of the stories he was reporting on, according to alsahwa-yemen.net.
The website quoted the police head of the district of Bani Qais as saying that the journalist was shot dead at a mountain pass in the area by a father and his four sons.
The attackers were arrested and would be turned over to the prosecution on Sunday, Abdul Razaq Al-Zurqa said.
The slain was attacked by the family few times in the past and the father and his sons were sent to the prosecution but later released.
The Yemeni Journalist Syndicate called a meeting on Sunday at its headquarters in Sana'a as it condemned the incident.
Killing reporters because of reporting is uncommon in Yemen, where the Paris-based Arab Commission for Human Rights said that official violations against press freedom were unbelievable.
