About 150 Yemeni inmates have gone on a hunger strike in protest against their abuse at a Saudi jail, the National Organization for Defending Human Rights and Freedom said on Sunday.
HOOD said the prisoners had complained about maltreatment by Saudis, saying they were insulted and accusing a Saudi solider of treading the ID of one of them.
They also complained about the inaction of the Yemeni embassy in Riyadh which, according to them, has received several complaints by them over a delay to their deportation, the organization said.
In response, the organization sent two letters to Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Al-Qirbi and Saudi Arabia's Interior Minister urging more attention to Yemeni people in the kingdom.
"The inmates have been in the Saudi Riman Prison for four months. We urge you to intervene, even in person, and look into their complaints," the letter sent to Al-Qirbi read.
In its letter to Saudi Arabia's Interior Minister, HOOD said there are more than 150 Yemeni inmates waiting for their deportation at the jail, criticizing maltreatment that has triggered the hunger strike.
