President Ali Abdullah Saleh met on Sunday in Sana'a Admiral William McRaven, the head of the US Special Operations Command.
The meeting focused on the partnership between the two countries to fight Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
According to the U.S. embassy in Sana'a, the talks came within the U.S. efforts to help Yemen get rid of Al-Qaeda on its soil.
The U.S. has many times voiced concern Yemen may become a launchpad for the organization after the wings of Al-Qaeda in Yemen and Saudi Arabia announced they were in merge early this year.
The wings, so-called Al-Qaeda in Arabian Peninsula, has claimed responsibility for several attacks that took place against senior officials and other targets in both neighbors.
The worsening situation in Yemen as the army continues its offensive against the Houthi rebels in the north and separation bids overshadow the country's capabilities under its fragile economy largely trigger U.S. fears Yemen could turn into a hotbed for Al-Qaeda terrorists.
The two countries have held several talks with the U.S. expressing readiness to further support Yemen to fight Al-Qaeda.
