Local sources revealed that clashes erupted in Shabwa governorate between Laqmosh tribesmen and army forces. The battle was fought in Lahbah area, some 30 km to the east of Ataq, the capital city of Shabwa.
Sources told Al-Sahwa.net that the clashes are blamed on differences over a checkpoint for collecting qat taxes and they resulted in injuring a tribesman who was rushed to a hospital in Hadramout’s Al-Mukalla.
The tribesmen managed to seize the military vehicles and take six soldiers hostages.
According to eye witnesses, military reinforcements were seen heading to the area to which the soldiers were taken and stressed the situation is tense. Tribal mediation efforts are being made to contain the situation and secure the immediate release of the arrested soldiers.
