The Saudi-led Arab coalition on Tuesday airdropped weapons and munitions for the pro-government forces in Yemen's southern city of Abyan.
Sources within the popular resistance which is backing the forces said they got advanced weapons as they are seeking to drive the Houthi militants from the city.
Today, the government forces retook key positions from the militants after fierce battles for days, they said.
Moreover, the coalition which has been bombing the Houthis since late March carried out fresh airstrikes in Abyan and the southern city of Lahj, local said.
The raids occurred on the second day of a humanitarian truce which could not take a hold.
Locally, fierce battles between the government forces and the Houthis have been continuing in several cities including Lahj which the forces are seeking to retake from the militants after Aden.
The national forces with support from the coalition drove the Houthis from Aden more than a week ago.
Key military brigades have been regained and the forces are close to retaking the Al-Anad base in Lahj, military sources said today.
Confrontations between the forces and the Houthi militants are continuing in other cities such as Taiz, Dhali, Baidha and Shabwa as well.
On the border with Saudi Arabia, the Houthi shelled Saudi towns with rockets on Monday violating the truce and triggering clashes with and airstrikes by the coalition forces, Saudi media reported.
