The Houthi militants with support from forces loyal to the former president took over Yemen's Jawf province, local sources said on Sunday.
The takeover occurred without resistance from the pro-government forces, they said, elaborating the pro-government withdraw from their positions including those which they had taken from the Houthis a few weeks ago.
Weeks ago, the pro-government resistance in Jawf waged fierce battles against the Houthis and advanced toward the Saada province, the Houthi stronghold seizing some districts in it.
Both cities are on the border with Saudi Arabia which has been leading a bombing campaign against the Houthis since late March.
"The Saudi-led Arab coalition could not help us lately. We were targeted by US drones on allegations Al-Qaeda supporters were among us," a source within the Jawf resistance said.
"Dozens from us were killed in US drone attacks more recently. We have withdrawn from all positions because drones are flying over us continuously without action from the Arab coalition to prevent US attacks," the source said on condition of anonymity.
"It is very offensive and very wired that the US targeted fighters loyal to the UN-backed government. We are resisting the Houthis and ready to fight not harbor Al-Qaeda at anytime and at any place in our city".
The Houthis have even seized the provincial government headquarters in downtown Jawf, the source said.
In other cities, the confrontations between the pro-government and pro-Houthi forces continued a day before UN-sponsored talks between the government and the Houthis kick off in Geneva.
Moreover, Saudi-led airstrikes against Houthi positions, camps and weapon depots continued in the past 24 hours in several cities including the capital Sanaa.
In Saada, Houthi sources said several civilians were killed and injured in airstrikes against the Sakain and Sahar districts.
