Yemen's president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi on Saturday appointed Fadl Hassan Al-Jadai as the new governor of the city of Dhali, the Saba agency run by the government said.
Moreover, he appointed Ali Moqbil Saleh as the chief for the 33rd military brigade in the city, it said.
The former commander of this brigade was loyal to Saleh and had been backing the Houthis and attacking civilians.
The two appointments were the latest by Hadi who has been staying in and acting from the Saudi capital of Riyadh for more than two months.
Hadi was ousted by the Houthis with support from forces loyal to ex-president in September.
In January, the militants put him under house arrest and, after he escaped it to Aden, he headed to Saudi Arabia.
He has appointed and fired many officials and ordered military trials for military and security chiefs.
The appointments came after the pro-government forces drove the Houthi militants and forces loyal to the former president out of Dhali.
Meanwhile, fierce confrontations between the pro-government and pro-Houthi forces continued in the cities of Taiz, Aden and Jawf, local sources said today.
In Aden, the pro-government forces repelled a Houthi attack in the Hiswa district forcing them to retreat, sources said. More than a dozen Houthis were killed in the battle, they elaborated.
In response, the Houthis fired tanks and artillery on residences killing and injuring civilians, they added, without giving statistics.
In the past few days, the Houthis have failed to infiltrate into and regain areas in downtown Aden which they had lost after the Saudi-led Arab coalition backed the pro-government forces with weapons.
The coalition targeted Houthi camps and convoys on the outskirts of Aden, according to the sources.
