Some 36 trucks carrying relief aid have arrived at the Sharorah port on the border with Saudi Arabia for the people affected by violence in Yemen, the high relief committee said at a press conference on Wednesday.
The aid was sent by Saudi Arabia and will be distributed to people in cooperation with the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Works during coming days, head of the committee Abdulrakeeb Fatah said.
When it was established in April, the Center pledged more than $500 million in aid to the Yemeni people.
Fatah held the Houthi militants responsible for preventing aid from reaching many beneficiaries especially in the cities of Aden, Dhali, Taiz and Lahj.
The militants are being stationed at the entries and exits of these cities leaving their populations to suffer lacks of all supplies, he added.
More than half of the Yemeni population have been affected by the recent conflict and are in need for emergency aid.
At the conference, transport minister Badr Basalamah said Yemenia planes have taken back home around 7508 of the nationals stranded in Egypt, the UAE, India and Jordan.
The King Salman Center paid the costs for the transfer of the stranded Yemenis, he said, pointing out that Yemenia planes will start transferring the stranded in Malaysia, Indonesia, China and other countries next week.
More than 20.000 Yemenis have been stranded in other countries due to a blockade on the country's sea, land and airports.
The blockade was part of the Saudi-led military operation against the Houthi militants on March 26 and has banned all trips, imports and exports.
Moreover, Basalamah said 276 licenses have been given to planes and vessels carrying around 29 million tons of foodstuffs, medicines and commercial supplies as well as 11.000 metric tons of fuels.
The Sayoun, Mukalla, Ghaidha and Socotra airports as well as the Mukalla seaport and the Aden refinery are secure and can receive aid at the moment, he added.
