The Houthi militants who toppled the transition government in Yemen in late 2014 handed an injured western national to the US on Monday, well-informed sources said.
The national, probably a US citizen, was released and handed over to US officials through an Omani mediation, they said, adding that the national has already arrived in Oman.
The sources did not give details about how the westerner had been injured.
On Sunday, the department of state said several US nationals were detained by the Houthis and put in a jail in the capital city of Sanaa.
Lately, agencies said US and Houthi officials were holding talks on the Yemeni crisis in Oman.
The US-Houthi talks occurred after UN-suggested talks on Yemen, which were scheduled for May 28, were postponed.
Separately, confrontations between pro-government and pro-Houthi forces continued in southern and eastern cities today.
The battles coincided with intensified Saudi-led airstrikes against Houthi weapon depots and military camps in several cities including the capital Sanaa.
