Houthi militants some in security uniform intercepted a demonstration against Houthi coup and violations in Yemen's capital city of Sanaa and attacked protesters.
The militants fired live bullets in the air to disperse the demonstration and carried out arrests and physical attacks on some activists of those who organised and led the demonstration as well as protesters.
According to organisers, Houthis assaulted and kidnapped nine activists and also attacked female protesters and activists.
Tens of thousands of people in several Yemeni cities including the capital have been escalating protests to condemn the Houthi coup against the legitimacy of the transition president and government and to demand political parties and security and military forces to shoulder their historical responsibility to prevent further chaos and violence in the country.
Meanwhile, well-informed sources said Sunday the UN envoy Jamal Benomar is meeting with all factions in a bid to reach a deal to convince president Hadi and the government to withdraw their resignations.
The resignations were submitted, Hadi's is yet to be approved or turned down by Parliament, amid increasing Houthi demands after Houthi militants seized power.
