Yemen has postponed the remaining stages of the 2014 census to this year citing security concerns and economic problems, the Central Organization for Control and Auditing said.
The census was supposed to be finalized in December.
At its meeting on Saturday, the High Census Committee approved to continue the census process this year while denying that the process was completely postponed.
The meeting discussed the finalized stages and the remaining stages because of fund shortages. According to official reports, the census process requires $67.4 million, 87% provided by the government and the rest by donors.
The organization said any postponement in the census requires a republican decision and that only the organization has the right to make a statement on the process.
The census covers people, houses and workplaces in an effort to help the authorities prepare suitable developmental plans.
Yemen carries out census every ten years. In 2004, its population reached around 20 million, 10.03 million males.
The annual rate of the population growth is 3%, studies said, while estimating the population could reach 26 million this year.
