This Sunday, Ahmad Kadiri Ahmad Turki, a man accused of being an al-Qaeda operatives by the state, has been sentenced to death, after a Sana’a court established he partook in 2011 in an attack which aimed to destroy Aden security headquarters. Over 20 members of Aden intelligence services lost their life during the raid.
Officials confirmed that following an exhaustive inquest, investigators were able to identify Turki as the main mastermind behind Aden’s attack. He, according to reports set up the terror cell and worked toward recruiting new operatives in the immediate region to carry out attacks.
Moreover, Sana’a special terror court handed nine other sentences, all ranging from two years to 10 years in prison, to men also identified as al-Qaeda operatives for attempting to assassinate President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi.
The prosecution said the accused plotted against the state and President Hadi when they placed an explosive device on a route they knew the president would travel on. However, due to the diligence of Sana’a security forces the bomb was spotted and disarmed before anyone could be harmed. Following a swift investigation, the nine accused were rounded by police and imprisoned pending their trial.
While Yemen has clearly stepped up its game when dealing with al-Qaeda, utilizing all the tools and weapons at its disposal to oppose the group’s advances, the elusive terror group seem to be forever bringing more recruits to carry out its attacks, raids and kidnapping bids.
