The Minister of State and member of the Council of Ministers Hassan Sharaf al-Din announced on Tuesday he had resigned his position in view of the government’s failure to honour its responsibility toward the nation.
Al-Din made his resignation letter to President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi public on his Facebook account this Tuesday. He wrote, “the government’s inabilities to fulfil their obligations, systematic political lagging and procrastinating has led me many times over consider resigning from my position. It is because I hoped my work would somehow benefit the nation that I stayed on as long as I did.
After witnessing the sheer weakness and inefficiency of the state I am now convinced that I can no longer fulfil my duties.
Al-Din went on thanking all members of the Council of Ministers for their trust and faith in his work and abilities. He reiterated his devotion to the flag.
In his letter to President Hadi, al-Din deplores the lack of political will and reach of the Cabinet, stressing that none of the promises made in 2012 to the people of Yemen in terms of social justice, equality, accountability and transparency had been achieved.
Speaking on security, al-Din complained of the state inability to reign down on dissident elements and terrorists while citizens and officials’ lives were being jeopardized and entire regions of the country threatened by instability and violence.
He called on President Hadi to as he promised, fulfil his duties as leader of the Yemeni nation and not act as a pawn to foreign powers.
“The coalition government has not only of failed to carry out its responsibilities, but some of its members have sought to exploit their position for financial and political gain.”
