Officials confirmed on Sunday that President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi had authorized yet another US-led drone strike within Yemen on Saturday as intelligence reports locked in on alleged terror militants in Lahj (southern province).
Ever since August aggravated terror alert, President Hadi and the US have been keen to up their game against al-Qaeda, making a point to actively pursue every piece of data and intelligence reports as to suffocate the group and prevent its militants from planning or conducting further terror strikes against Yemen or foreign interests in the region.
As pointed by terror experts, al-Qaeda Yemen has proven to be a local group acting and thinking globally, thus a threat to be reckoned with in the sense that its zone of influence cannot be restricted to one particular area or region.
The strike in Lahj is said to have killed two suspected al-Qaeda operatives and wounded two others, one rather seriously said the local authorities.
"The four men were traveling by car through Askariya when they were struck by the drone," said an official under cover of anonymity.
He explained that it was the first that drones had been spotted on this area, underscoring the scope of Washington's anti-terror campaign in Yemen.
Back in the capital, Sana'a, Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Mohammed Nasser Ahmed met with Karen Sasahara, United States’ deputy ambassador and two other US officials to review and discuss Yemen' security situation.
