Already given the guarantees Mubarak and Ben Ali only wished they could have had before leaving power, President Saleh insists on staying in rule as millions have continue protesting for demanding he steps down.
It was a disappointing weekend in Yemen as President Saleh rejected a key point in the gulf proposal, which says that he must personally sign the gulf agreement with the opposition. Saleh insisted that his political party should sign on his behalf, raising fears that he was playing one more dirty game before leaving office.
Only today did Saleh remember that he has a political party, after treating all of them like a dictator for more than 32 years. No minister in Saleh’s government has the complete authority to run the ministry without direct involvements from a ruling family member.
It seems that the bad influence from those surrounding him is hurting him now, as it becomes clearer that Saleh could face a shameful ending. He was given complete immunity from the billions of dollars he and his family stole, and assurances that he would not stand trial for his thousands of violations over his three decades of rule, but still refused to depart.
Sources confirmed that President Saleh does not want to leave the capital Sana’a fearing that a military coup could take place. He should be scared as Yemenis today understand that Saleh is trying to lead them to a civil war.
No one has degraded Yemenis more than Saleh this month, as he verbally attacks and accused everyone not on his side, while in the same time calling himself a democratic icon.
All Arabs knew Libya’s Ghaddafi was crazy, and with the actions Yemen’s Saleh has shown over the last month, he is proving that the Middle East has more than one crazy leader. Time is closing down on Saleh and revolution youth are becoming impatient.
Saleh today is as weak as ever, as he cannot leave the capital Sana’a. This fact is degrading for any president, let alone someone who refuses to leave power after given immunity and guarantees. Saleh will remember the days he had a chance to leave with honor. History will repeat itself.
