Yemen has managed to rescue five Yemeni officers who were arrested by a Syrian group this week from being executed, the army-run 26 September newspaper said on Thursday.
The newspaper said the Yemeni authorities carried out contacts to follow up their case and succeeded to stop sentences of executing them.
A Yemeni rights group, Hood, said on Wednesday that the officers have no relations to any group and that they are not affiliated to any political party.
Hood further cited that five Yemeni families on 4 September had reported their sons had disappeared while heading from Aleppo to Damascus on their way home after completing their studies.
26 September Newspaper said that the Defense Minister Mohammad Nasser Ahmed mandated a panel to contact and coordinate with different Syrian sides, the International Federation of Red Cross and other rights group to release the officers.
It further stressed that the officers were studying at the Military College in Aleppo, hoping that the concerned rights group will operate to immediately free them.
The video by Al Nusra Front showed clips of five men in civilian clothes asking the Yemeni government to stop supporting the Assad regime.The video showed the Yemeni army ID cards of the five officers who condemn the "crimes" committed by Assad's regime against Syrians and the Sanaa government's support for Damascus.
Meanwhile, Yemen's defense ministry strongly denied the allegation, stressing that the officers had been studying in Syria since several years and that they were en route to Yemen.
