The Yemeni authorities arrested early on Sunday two Al-Qaeda suspects in the port city of Aden which has been rocked by violence and deadly attacks by suspected militants including those against the intelligence HQ in the past few weeks, security sources told the Yemen Post.
The arrests took place in Al-Tuwahi city, two days after two of the most wanted militants were captured in Crater city, the sources said.
The militants, arrested on Friday, were members of the Crater cell and they were arrested after clashes with the forces that raided their home in Aden.
Tens of soldiers were killed and injured in repeated attacks on the intelligence headquarters and other public offices in Aden in the past few weeks coinciding with bombings in other cities including the capital Sanaa.
Al-Qaeda has recently stepped up its attacks including deadly bombings in what appeared to be retaliation for the severe blows it has received in the south in the past few months.
The army launched in April-May a US-backed offensive and drove Al-Qaeda militants out of their strongholds in Abyan and Shabwa provinces.
Hundreds of militants including senior leaders were killed in the offensive.
In the meantime, tens of militants and cells have been arrested so far in a massive, continuing hunt for the remaining Qaeda operatives
