The Saada-based Houthi group arrested on Monday five merchants in Saqain district of Saada as they refused paying taxes for the group.
Local Sources affirmed that the Houthi group imposed big amounts on Saada people as taxes, asserting hat armed men of the group threaten anyone who refuse paying with arrest, kidnapping and affiliation to the United States or Israel.
Residents of Saada had demanded President Abdu Rabo Mansour Hadi and the government to put an end to violations practiced against them by the Houthi militias.
The sources said that the group collected about YR1,5 taxes in August without giving them any receipts.
The Houthi group are accused of committing violations, abductions, tortures, threats against the population of Saada.
Media sources have stated the Houthi group conducted last in late May an arrest campaign against activists, politicians, teachers, students as well as football players in Saada.
Akhbar Alyawam newspaper quoted an officer of an international human rights group operating in Yemen as saying that he had information about torture and violations practiced in private prisons of the Houthi group against its oppositionists.
An officer of Human Rights Watch in Yemen Abdul-Rashid Al-Faqih has called to investigate crimes committed by the Houthi group in Saada after he visited four persons who were brutally tortured by the group, according to Al-Faqih.
He said that the three persons were captured from their homes in Saada last Thursday, held in solitary confinements and they were only released after they pledged to not participate in any political, cultural or social activities.
"We receive many calls from Saada governorate in which residents complaints of violations and repressions carried out by the Houthi group" he added.
