The military committee ordered on Saturday to immediately take necessary measures over the issue of the detainees in Yemen including those who were held in connection with the 2011 uprising against the former regime.
The order came upon the note of the human rights minister which was sent to President Abdrabu Mansour Hadi urging to bring an effective solution to the extrajudicial and arbitrary arrests including those reported in 2011.
The authorities and human rights watchdogs have recently affirmed there were many Yemenis held inside the state prisons including youths who were arrested for their revolutionary activities.
They said most of the arrests were arbitrary and extrajudicial and some of the detainees were tortured inside security prisons.
The committee also discussed issues on its agenda designed to deepen security at the current moment, stressing the importance to continue its job based on the people’s determination to remove all unrest causes.
The military committee was formed after the power-transfer deal had been reached in late 2011.
It is in charge with restoring security and stability after the turmoil and has since its formation faced big challenges, mainly as it has been trying to remove barricades and checkpoints which were built by the divided forces last year.
The power-transfer deal was brokered by the GCC and backed by the West and saw the longtime former president to relinquish power to his deputy.
