SANA’A, YEMEN
WFP Deputy Executive Director Ramiro Lopes da Silva will begin a four-day visit to Yemen on 14 July to oversee the agency’s ongoing expansion of operations to deal with growing numbers of hungry people in the country.
During his visit, Lopes da Silva will meet with representatives of the government, donors and the humanitarian community to assess the impact of WFP’s recent moves to scale up operations in Yemen to assist 3.6 million people, including severely food insecure households, refugees, displaced people and young mothers and children. He will also travel to the field to review operations at health clinics and camps for internally displaced people.
WFP expanded its operations in Yemen following the publication of its Comprehensive Food Security Survey, which found that more than 10 million Yemenis—almost half the population—are either hungry or balanced on the edge of hunger.
