The Yemeni Journalists' Syndicate launched on Sunday the project of professional, ethical performance development after a consultative meeting by the media, unionist leaders on the journalistic code of ethics.
The project will be implemented during 28 April-16 October next year by the qualification and training committee at the syndicate and the response, Istijaba, project with support from the USAID.
It will include five preliminary meetings by media and unionist leaders, four workshops in Sanaa, Aden, Mukalla, Taiz and Hodeida to offer proposals over the Yemeni journalistic code of ethics and help experts to formulate the code of ethics based on the proposals.
Head of the qualification and training committee at the syndicate, Nabil Al-Osaidy, said the meeting today was aimed at reviewing the idea about how to formulate the project and the suitable mechanism to approve it at journalistic facilities with the aim to develop their profession and message.
About 220 journalists will be engaged in the activities of the project, he continued.
At the launch ceremony, assistant deputy information minister, Younus Haza, said the information ministry has withdrawn the draft projects to amend the press and publication law and the draft press audio and visible law.
The move was taken amid outrage and they will be further discussed to have them in perfect forms, he said.
Speeches were delivered highlighting the important role played during the change protests and which must continue during the transition period. Some speeches focused on dangers facing the media in Yemen, urging to help the media do its job in the best interest of the country.
