Yemen’s Defense Minister Mohammad Nasser Ahmed has threatened to resign inside two weeks if the Military Commission fails to remove all armed manifestations from the capital Sana’a.
As he was summoned by the parliament on Sunday, he affirmed that the armed manifestations including military barracks and checkpoints will be removed from the capital Sana'a during the two upcoming weeks.
During the parliamentary session, Ahmed evaded to name the side that often obstructs the tasks of the Military Commission formed under the GCC power transfer deal.
“We faced many impediments, but we will stay in Sana’a whatever the circumstances are” Ahmed who originally from the South said.
He attributed insecurity and expansion of Al-Qaeda in some governorates to withdrawal of security checkpoints of some governorates as well as the division of the armed forces.
He disclosed that the job rotation will applied for all military divisions, stressing that all units of the military forces will be included.
For his part, the Interior Minister Abdul-Kader Qahtan called before parliament on Sunday the political parties to turn a new page and ease tensions.
He further said that some forces work to provoke insecurity, urging the parliamentarians who demanded him to resign to give up what he said “ the culture of retaliation”.
Many Yemeni cities witness insecurity, particularly some southern governorates where terrorist groups connecting to Al-Qaeda seized control on some areas during the public protests wave that hit the state in 2011.
Analysts and politicians accuse the former President Ali Abdullah Saleh and officials loyal to him of working to provoke turbulence and turmoil with the aim of hindering the interim government.
