Three explosions rocked on Monday an army brigade in the southern port city of Aden, local and security sources told Yemen Post.
"Three explosions shook Badar brigade in Khor Makhsar area of Aden," said a security local source, adding that the terrorist elements believed to be linked with al-Qaeda bombarded the brigade with mortar shells from a nearby location.
He pointed out that this was the third time that this military institution is subjected to attacks in less than two weeks, urging army and security bodies to remain vigilant and on stand by so that they can foil any attack targeting the security and stability of Yemen.
As of late, Aden was overrun by militants with long beards who are thought to be al-Qaeda affiliates. The residents of Aden showed their concerns over the increasing activities of the militant groups that have sharply undermined the security in the free zone.
Mohammed Saleh, a resident from Aden, told Yemen Post that the former regime, which is still in control of most of the army institutions, is trying to turn their city into al-Qaeda stronghold in order to portray to the whole world that it was the one holding the militants back.
The new President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi has to dismiss former President Ali Abdullah Saleh's relatives who hold key army posts in the country as soon as possible or else he should quit his post, said Mohammed.
It was not al-Qaeda who bombarded today a military brigade in Khor Makhsar rather it was Saleh's paid militias, he added.
in south Yemen, al-Qaeda has expanded its foothold and stepped up its attacks on army and security apparatuses, taking an advantage of the current prolonged crisis that has dragged for over a year.
