President Abdu Rabo Mansour Hadi appointed on Tuesday Abdu-Rabu Meaid as a new commander of the Special Guards after sacking the nephew of the former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Tariq, well-informed sources said.
Hadi appointed Tariq as the commander of the 3rd Brigade of the Republican Guard, the sources said.
The sources cited that the 3rd Brigade of the Republican Guards is among the strongest and more armed brigades of the Yemeni military.
They further said Hadi appointed Major General Murad Al-Awbali as a commander of the 62nd Brigade of the Republican Guard in Arhab and Major General Mohammad Al-Bokhaiti as a commander of Republican Guard in Taiz.
These replacements came one day after news reports stated Saleh entered the Presidential Palace from a back gate while Hadi was receiving foreign delegations.
The reports affirmed that Saleh held a meeting with trial chiefs, members of the General People Congress and military commanders who are still loyal to him.
The General People Congress has confirmed in its online newspaper that Saleh held a meeting with members of his party, but it did not mentioned the place of the meeting.
Saleh held a meeting last Saturday with his supporters in which he strongly criticized the Yemeni revolutionaries who took to streets against him, describing the protesters as thugs and backward people.
In a speech delivered before his supporters inside a mosque nearby the Presidential Palace, Saleh threatened to disclose files and documents about the Yemeni revolution in particular and the Arab Spring in general. He further portrayed his opponents as traitors and corrupt people.
